Darren Bent believes Tottenham shouldn’t hesitate in trying to win the battle to sign Samuel Umtiti this window if Barcelona have made the defender available. The France international has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp this season having started just four La Liga games.
Spurs are short of options at the back with Jan Vertonghen soon to be departing the club as a free agent in the summer.
Toby Alderweireld recently committed his future to the club with a new contract and Davinson Sanchez is a regular at Tottenham.
However, former Tottenham striker Bent believes Jose Mourinho should do everything they can to bring in Umtiti to their backline if possible.
“If they can get Umtiti, wow,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s big, strong, powerful and good on the ball, and he’s someone Mourinho can trust.
“He’s played in big games, won big competitions, obviously the World Cup which is a big one.
“If he’s been offered, that means he may not cost too much, so I’d snap their hand off.”
Tottenham have already bolstered their options further up the pitch after bringing in Gedson Fernandes on an initial 18-month loan.
Spurs will then have the option to make the deal permanent for around £55million in 2021.
